f0ment

f0ment is the solo alias of longstanding multi-instrumentalist, producer/composer, and DJ Niko Raptis. An all-too-brief description in music terms might frame f0ment as a tension between post-ambient soundscapes and minimalist neo-classical compositions/sound art—inflected with industrial/post-punk ethos, shoegaze melancholia, and an onset Generation X indie tongue-in-cheek attitude.

Art, design, film, literature, and the triptych of beauty-as-resistance, aesthetics-as-attitude, and parenthood are also in the axis of their art practice, which utilizes classic synthesis techniques on modular synthesizers and prepared instruments, mostly piano and guitar.

The outcome transcends conventional genre boundaries even within the ambient/experimental/post-music realms, to create focused auditory journeys through inner and outer worlds. These compositions serve as an audio framework for sociopolitical commentary—interweaving the absurdities and fixations of urban and natural landscapes, the nuances of interpersonal relationships, evolving concepts of family and community, and the relentless chaos of late neoliberal realism.

It is not bound by genre, but guided by clarity, restraint, and a refusal to indulge in unnecessary ornamentation. The work exists in a space between stillness and motion, intimacy and distance — drawing the listener into its own terms of engagement.

Fringe Society

Fringe Society is a Berlin-based project rooted in the darker fringes of dance music. Drawing from wave, Italo, EBM, industrial disco, and post-punk, it began as a nod to the 1980s but was never a retro exercise. The music carries one foot in nostalgia and the other in lived experience: a dry, smart-assed indie sensibility, shaped by DJ culture and nights spent drifting between clubs, bars, and questionable characters. Think the lineage of Optimo, Ivan Smagghe, Andrew Weatherall, and Cosmo Vitelli, but refracted through Berlin’s nocturnal underground. The result is abrasive yet playful, romantic without sentimentality — music made for the dancefloor with a raised eyebrow.

Modern Ruin

Modern Ruin are Nikolaos Raptis (aka Fringe Society, based in Berlin) and Gerard Papasimakopoulos (lead vocalist of the now-defunct Rattler Proxy, based in Athens). Their debut album Unemployment Line Disco came out last year on Höga Nord Records. This EP is their first for Lurid Music, featuring remixes by Gabe Gurnsey (Factory Floor) and Fringe Society. Trashcan techno and darkroom banter rub elbows like longtime barfly buddies. Do you really want to go “where everybody knows your name”?

Editions Polyhymnia

Editions Polyhymnia is a platform for emotional and intellectual fragility. Founded by f0ment, it exists to give form to ideas that emerge from an inner need, as an attempt to create a language through seemingly opposing ideas and concepts.

While f0ment’s roots are in experimental and ambient traditions, the work moves beyond them. It draws from both sterile ambient minimalism and modern composition, but its cultural context is the now: post-internet pop culture, context-sensitive editions, and a constant shape-shifting attitude in terms of output and its place in the world.

Polyhymnia was not founded to romanticize old scenes or pander to closed networks stiff and frozen in time. Its aim is to exist in a living present — aware of shifting cultural tides, open to new mediums, and fearless in crossing disciplines.

Editions Polyhymnia is for those who still believe that art can be a form of resistance, clarity, and a battle against mediocrity and banality.
